UK car production down in August
UK car production took another dive last month as output fell almost 25 per cent year-on-year. Overall UK production over the first eight months of the year was down almost 8 per cent on 2005 output levels.
SMMT chief executive, Christopher Macgowan, said: “While August car production was lower this year than in 2005, the car industry has been boosted by recent announcements from Nissan and BMW, both of which have made commitments to UK plant investment.”
Macgowan said this would help support the supply of large-scale components from British-based companies.
