National Bike Draw

BEN, the Automotive Industry Charity, in Association with Harley-Davidson Motorcycles will be launching its National Bike Draw at the CV Show at The NEC today. Raffle tickets cost £2 and the prize is an XL 883cc Sportster. The Draw will take place at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show, The NEC, on December 2, 2007.

Used Car Profit Clinic

COLIN MATHIESON, sales director for Fish 4 cars, will be the keynote speaker at the next Auto Retail Network used car profit clinic, scheduled for May 18.
According to Fish 4, a record number of potential car buyers are visiting their network of local, regional and national websites. More than 400,000 visitors are searching the linked sites each month and there are now 3,000 auto retailers advertising.

THE GUMBALL Rally

THE GUMBALL Rally sets-off from London this weekend with entrants having to drive to Asia and back in 8-days. The 120 supercars will drive to Amsterdam and then overnight reach a secret airport in Germany where all 120 cars will be airlifted by Gumballs own Antonov cargo planes to Asia. And they'll all look very smart, thanks to a squad of Meguiar's valeters spending all day Saturday giving them the once-over.

Nissan to appoint 50 specialist LCV dealerships

NISSAN IS aiming to increase LCV sales in the UK by over 20% this year.
Key to the drive will be an increase in the dealer network and a concerted sales and marketing campaign.
New CV sales and marketing manager, Mark Lovett has already established an 8-strong LCV commercial unit including a new dealer development field team.

Scania and DAF to build own truck bodies

SWEDISH TRICK manufacturer, Scania and DAF of the Netherlands, have revealed plans at the CV Show to start building their own truck bodies.
Both manufacturers are to try the concept in the UK before adopting it throughout Europe.
The two companies are starting with simple box bodies consisting of GRP panels on extruded aluminium frames.

Toyota was World's biggest car-maker in first qtr

GM'S 76-year reign as the world's biggest car-maker is at an end.
Japanese giant, Toyota recorded global sales in the first quarter of this year of 2.35m cars and pick-ups. That was 1 9.2% first quarter sales record.
General Motors' sales rose 3 per cent to only 2.26m.

Renault revises the Espace

WITH around 20-years on the clock, Renault has simplified the 2007 Espace and says revised pricing will make it more accessible for motorists.
The new entry-level Team 2.0 16V 140, starts at £18,595 and rises to £33,460 for the Grand Espace Initiale 3.0 V6 dCi 180 auto.
There are two new diesel automatic engines - the 2.0 dCi 150 Auto FAP 6-speed and the 2.0 dCi 175 Auto FAP 6-speed.

BMW warns of bogus 'cash and car prize' emails

BMW UK is warning people not to be fooled by a scam email entitled "International Awareness Promotion Department of the BMW Automobile Company" The warning comes after what the car-maker called a spate of bogus emails offering cash prizes or cars as part of free prize draws.
This is not a bona fide BMW campaign and the firm has no relationship with the people responsible for issuing the notices, said the company today.

BMW dealers offer 1-Series 5-year service at £190

BMW UK is offering buyers of a 1-Series a new low introductory price of £190 for its 5-year, 60,000 miles service package.
The owner is subsequently covered for all routine servicing of their vehicle, including parts and labour during this period.

Interest rates not affecting used van prices

GENERALLY, the rise in interest rates seems to have had little effect on demand for used vans, says Manheim's latest Market Analysis for LCVs.
In the last 6-months, the average selling price has risen by 9% from £3,029 during Q3 2006 to £3,318 during Q1 2007.
This represents the highest average quarterly selling price achieved since Manheim first launched LCV Market Analysis two years ago.

EurotaxGlass's appoints new UK managing director

NEW MANAGING director for the UK and Ireland of EurotaxGlass's International, is Deven Thakrar, the previous managing director of Lex's automotive supply chain operation.
He will be based at the EurotaxGlass's offices in Weybridge, Surrey, and will report direct to recently appointed chief operating officer, Alastair MacLeod.

Rolls-Royce planning smaller model

ROLLS-ROYCE is working on a smaller model which could be ready before the end of the decade.
Chairman and chief executive, Ian Robertson, confirmed the news at the Shanghai Motor Show, saying it would be 'relatively smaller'.
He told Reuters that the design is finished and the first prototypes should be running very shortly.

First electric Transits on show at CV show

TANFIELD-OWNED, Smith Electric Vehicles, will launch its electric version of the Ford Transit at todays Commercial Vehicle Show.
Called the Edison, it is capable of 50mph and a range of up to 150 miles on one battery charge, while still providing up to 1,500kg of payload. It is the only zero emission vehicle with a GVW of under 3.5t to offer these performance capabilities.

'We like Chrysler so much, we'll buy it' - workers

A GROUP of Chrysler workers in Toledo, Ohio, has formed an "employee buyout committee" and has sent a formal proposal to Daimler Chrysler.
The workers are offering to take a 70% stake in the car-maker over a period of 5-years or more on behalf of its 50,000 U.S. factory workers.

IAN FORSTER Specialist Cars

IAN FORSTER Specialist Cars at Newcastle Road, West Boldon, Tyne & Wear, has closed.
A spokesman told AutoWired that Mr Forster (43) is retiring and new tenants for the showroom are expected to move-in shortly.
"We are now clearing the site," said the spokesman, who confirmed that the showroom was not open for business.
The Financial Services Authority cancelled the firm's licence to sell insurance in January 'because it had failed to conduct business in compliance with proper standards'.
Three-years ago, when the retailer moved to its new site, it was reported to have sold £4m-worth of cars inside the first 3-months.
