Car crashes cost economy £1bn a year

Car accidents in the UK cost the British economy around £1bn in lost working hours each year, a new study has claimed.

Research by Accident Exchange found that motorists spend an average of 3.5 days dealing with the aftermath of a crash. There are an average of 10,000 crashes a day in the UK, resulting in the loss of 12.4 million working days, and the average loss of an employee each day is £75.

Accident Exchange said the loss of such a large number of days was the equivalent to a combined annual total of £926m.
