Business confidence surges despite rates rise

Business confidence in the UK economy surged during January despite the rise in interest rates. Over 50 per cent of companies reported an optimistic outlook about the wider economy during the month compared to a figure of 35 per cent in December. The latest Business Barometer from Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets also found that 62 per cent of businesses expect to increase business activity in the next 12 months, while just 6 per cent anticipate a decline.
