EC sets emissions target
THE EUROPEAN Commission said that the average new car in the European Union will have to emit no more than130g of carbon per kilometre by the year 2012.
That means a cut from 161g at present if the measures are approved by EU governments. But it is less than the 120g figure which environmentalists were hoping for.
Car-makers fear that stringent emissions enforcement will increase car prices and could cost jobs.
