Pendragon steps aside from Sunderland sponsorship
PENDRAGON HAS shunned the opportunity of having its name on Sunderland Football Club's shirts when the club returns to the Premiership next season. The Vardy name has been on the club's shirts for the past 8-years but Vardy owner, Pendragon, has stepped aside from the sponsorship in favour of Irish bookmaker, Boylesports.
The deal could net Sunderland more than £10m over 4-years as the sponsorship is performance-related.
"We offered the club the option that if they could secure a long-term deal to support Premiership football, we would step aside early," said Pendragon chief executive, Trevor Finn.
The Vardy contract with Sunderland was due to end at the end of next season.
