BMW's new small car
BMW is considering developing a new car that is smaller than the Mini as part of a review of its market position and model portfolio.
If built, the vehicle would help BMW lower its mostly large-engined fleet average carbon dioxide emissions, as European Union legislators press ahead with moves to impose a 130 g/km average by 2012.
One company insider said: "BMW is considering a small car under the Mini. It's very serious." However, there was no official comment from the company.
