GM sales accelerate past Toyota
General Motors has overtaken Toyota as the world's largest vehicle manufacturer after outselling the Japanese marque in the first nine months of 2007.
In what has become a close race between the two producers, GM has regained top spot after reporting global sales of 7.06 million. Toyota sold 7.05 million units and was hit by a near 5% drop in sales in the last quarter in the United States.
Toyota said that it still hoped to sell 9.42m million units this year, a target that would probably allow it to reclaim the number one slot at year-end.
