Uninsured drivers could have cars seized

DRIVERS who let their car insurance lapse could face having their vehicles seized from outside their homes under plans being drawn up by ministers.Powers due to come into force from April 2009 will make it possible for vehicles to be confiscated as soon as their insurance lapses unless their owners take them off the road. This could lead to several hundred thousand cars being confiscated. It is intended that the Motor Insurers’ Database will be cross-checked with information held by the DVLA to identify motorists who may have let their insurance lapse and not taken their cars off the road. Drivers could face a £100 fine, which, if not paid, will result in their car being seized.
